From the Publisher

I find sketching a fox is very similar to sketching a cat; however, the fox’s unique facial features, such as a pointy snout and spiky ears, set it apart. My fox has a delicate nose and big, wide eyes. I also like emphasizing her white fluffy collar, floaty tail, and dipped in black socks.

Foxes

The fox is a prominent character in Russian fairy tales. She is usually known for being slyly smart to achieve her selfish aims. She’s the one who speaks softly and sweetly, and then steals the chicken and gets the wolf in trouble. To me, a fox is such a mysterious character, perhaps because her eyes are so cunning and alert. She is watchful, patiently waiting for her plan to unfold.

Foxes have a triangular facial structure, a chunky body, and a long, furry tail. Folkloric motifs emphasize her white chest and looping tail, and her sidelong gaze suggests powers of observation honed by ages of mythological trickery.

Take a look at my quick sketch to see how I draw a fox in a sitting position.

In addition to flora and fauna works of art, Imagine a Forest includes these projects:

Decorative Letters

Decorative letters were an important part of the illuminated manuscripts that monastic scribes created for special display books.

Pattern Creation

Sometimes it’s nice to get away from representational art and just draw a pattern.

Painted Eggs

Painting Easter eggs is a beloved tradition that can be traced to early Christians in Mesopotamia. The egg represents renewal and rebirth.
