The journey down memory road is a coming-of-age excursion into the past taking armchair explorers on an odyssey of life, love, and loneliness.

Fate throws two people together, and tragedy compels them to stay as one even though they both know they’d be better apart. MEMORY ROAD TRIP is a diary of growth composed of brutally honest musings and retrospective tales. Youth and naivety are unabashedly displayed as the author explores certain parts of the globe while simultaneously discovering her contemplative self. Alcoholism is an unspoken companion that goes along for the ride in a pre-Covid world spanning from the early ’90s to the fall of the Twin Towers.

The journey down memory road is not only an adventurous journey to certain parts of the globe but also an introspective and witty journey to the mysterious self. The author’s passion for nature, art, history, and architecture gush across the page, along with her contagious curiosity in life and her pragmatic acceptance of death. The writer does not shy away from her developing political and environmental musings, for traveling opens her eyes to see a fragile and connected world.

MESSAGE FROM THE AUTHOR:

THIS IS NOT A RUN-OF-THE-MILL TRAVEL MEMOIR. I repeat: this is NOT a typical travel memoir. This is a diary of growth filled with brutally honest musings and retrospective tales. Readers will best appreciate this book if they approach it with an open mind. Yes, I will be young and stupid, and yes, I’ll make many avoidable mistakes. However, I consciously decided to embrace my imperfections and share my coming-of-age tales openly. Allow me to apologize in advance if my blunders make readers feel embarrassed for me; my intention was to share my stories, not to make anyone feel uncomfortable. I know I’m uncommon and spontaneous to a fault, but I enjoy those qualities about me. Despite constantly questioning myself, I know who I am, and I wrote this quasi-travel memoir because I wanted to leave something behind for when I fade away. I desire to be remembered exactly as I was—a typical human being.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:

This debut author has an incredible voice. Most writers feel constrained by the need to be super consistent in their narrative idiom, but Krista Marson’s voice is fluid in a very natural/relatable way. When she writes about events, people, and interactions, it’s very conversational and accessible. It reads like a person talking about something they know is interesting. When she writes about her experiences with art, it becomes very lyrical…almost musical…without feeling stilted or overly engineered. Then, when she writes about her emotions, it becomes very visceral. If her audience doesn’t completely feel what she felt, they still know she felt it very deeply. Many authors have trained to be writers for years and couldn’t hit all three of those notes in the same piece. Bravo for this author’s amazing achievements! She is definitely an author that deserves a wide audience.
